Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts (AFAM)

Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts was formed in 2004 to address the need for public advocacy on behalf of individuals, families and professionals who have or work with people on the Autism Spectrum including Asperger's Syndrome and high-functioning Autism. This new grassroots, membership organization of families and concerned citizens provides an important arena for mobilizing those affected by ASD and serves as the primary advocacy vehicle protecting the rights and needs of individuals with ASD and their families throughout the state.

The Mission of Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts is to strive to assure the human and civil rights of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and the availability of essential supports so that they may live life fully and enjoy the same opportunities as others throughout the Commonwealth. They educate and advocate vigorously within the Massachusetts community and its governmental entities to enhance the lives of people with ASD and their families.

Annual events include:

  1. Autism Spectrum Awareness Day in April at the Massachusetts Statehouse
  2. Family Zoo Day in September at the Franklin Park Zoo.
